Moral Questions part III

Few more questions for you to weigh in on.

Does God do miracles and heal?
Yes, God heals everyone who asks in true faith
Yes, occasionally God heals but not necessarily
No, God does not heal and do miracles today
Not Sure

What is the nature of damnation?
Eternal torment, sorrow, and regret
Annhiliation
Not Sure/Other

Is assisted suicide ok?
Never
If the person is going to dye very soon and is in great pain
Yes
Not Sure

I am not sure about some of these. I think God can and does do miracles, but do not know why or how he decides to use them.
I know hell is not a place I want to be. The bible mentions weeping and eternal fire.
I don't think I could assist someone in death, but cannot speak for it since I have never been in that situation.

I believe God heals. Why would we pray for it if we didn't believe it?

Plus, there's the case of my grandmother's friend who had such an aggressive case of cancer, they had given her little hope to work with. They finally decided to do another sugery, and when they opened her up, they could not find cancer anywhere. Everyone had prayed with faith on that one!

Assisted suicide is taking the decision out of God's hands, and I know for fact that's a bad idea. God could choose to heal them and they could go on to lead a full life for Him.

I agree that God can heal. I just don't know why he chooses not to sometimes.
I also agree on assisted suicide, just wonder how I'd react if I was put in one of those situations.

God most certainly works miracles, you don't need to look any farther than a child being born.

God heals, he listens especially close to the prayers of a righteous man.

Damanation - don't want to be some place where there is "weeping and nashing of teeth"

Assisted Suicide - that's like asking if extramarital sex is okay. You are married but just not having sex with the one your married too. You are killing someone but they would have died anyways. Again, I just don't think that God is going to put us in a situation where we have to either, abort a baby, or be the author for assisted suicide.

I believe in miracles. I look at Aiden every day and believe in those. I totally believe God can heal. I think he chooses not to, as well.

heres a question. do you think that people who commit suicide, are in fact, going to hell? what about the ones that arent in their right mind when they do it? because in my opinion, you cant be in your right mind when you kill yourself. what about those who suffer from depression? hmmmm?? hmmmmm?

Very good questions Ashley. I hope they would be judged for their life and not a single mistake at the end. What if I curse as I get in a car wreck and die? Fortunately for me, I am not the judge.

Jon: I agree with you and Jamey. There are just some circumstances that make you wonder. If not for modern medicine keeping a person alive... What about someone that is brain dead and not breathing for themselves, is that assited suicide?

To answer your last question - Candi Clevenger was brain dead but I would have to agree with Jason that her soul was long gone from her body. The machines might be keeping their physical body alive but their souls are on their way already.

Yes, God heals. Too many proven first-hand accounts, like the one Jamey mentioned, for anyone but the most hardened atheist to disagree.
Why does He chose not to sometimes? "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed by the Name of the Lord". Read Ravi Zacharius. Or Job, again.

Love ya, Mom

Good thoughts mom.

I don't think I would classify turning off life support as assisted suicide. Whatever event put someone in that situation more than likely was not suicide, therefore, you can't assist them with it in the end. Does that make sense?

I will only tackle miracles and healing because that alone can overload my feeble mind for days. First, we probably use the word miracle in different ways. Several have already referred to the "miracle of birth". I agree that it is astounding that God works through a man and woman to create another human. However, it doesn't meet my understanding of a miracle because, in fact, it is a natural process. It is the way God designed nature to work. It is amazing and we should thank God more than we do, but it is not a contradiction of natural process. That carries over to the question of healing. I could also recount anecdotal stories of healing that seemed beyond what is natural after people prayed fervently. I also have read with interest Lance Armstrong's book describing not only an amazing survival of cancer but the ensuing 7 Tour De France victories. It seems like a miracle but Armstrong has no belief in God...still. An interesting read on this subject is whywontgodhealamputees.com. I do not agree with the guy but he makes some strong points. Perhaps the larger question should be "If God responds to the fervent prayers of the rightous, why do we spend so much of our time praying for physical healing and longer life rather than spiritual healing and earlier deliverance from this world of sin?"

Roxy, as always very well thought out.
