It Has Begun
I, Jamey, hereby hijack this blog so that people who do sometimes check Kenny's blog will not give up on him!
I thought I would add some pictures from their jamboree Friday night. They played at home, and I got goosebumps when he took the field with his team for the first time as a head coach. I know he would have more to say regarding details of the plays, athletes, and overall outcome, but I'll leave that for him to add later.
Let me begin by saying Kenny has been extremely busy, but has found time to spend with his kiddos and me. I hope he knows we appreciate that.

Quick post
Just a quick post to say I do plan on posting as soon as we get back from Florida and the weeks vacation with my family to Disney and the beach. Been a little busy lately:
We finished up track season: girls were 5th at state, boys were 7th (best we've ever finished).
Turned right around and did spring football. We look improved from last season with several new players/coaches, but you really can't tell until you are playing someone else.
School is over now so I am gearing up for football. For those interested we have a jamboree August 22nd and open at home August 29th this season. We are picked to finish 7th in the region (out of 8). Hopefully we can prove some people wrong.
If you haven't check Jamey's blog she has some pictures of the kids. Braden is now over 20lbs and is growing by the minute. He can sit up and roll and grab everything. The best news...he is a daddy's boy as of now. Avery is 3 now. She is very smart and fun to be with.
Jamey and I will celebrate 7 years together on June 2nd. Fittingly we will both be working with our teams during the day.

Jordan Creel
I will post more on this if I have the time later. But I was witness to God's work Friday night in the shape of a football player. Read this article and you'll see why...
...Many times as a Christian coach you question if God cares or not about sports. There are many stories about "religious" teams that give God the credit for their victories. But what about the teams that have Christians on them that do not win. I have been a coach on winning and losing teams and did not feel I was a worse or better christian on either of them. So what roll does God play in high school sports...
I am not sure of the answer, but do know that I was shown a little of his power in what he allowed Jordan to do last Friday. Not only did he play well, but his teammates played well above their heads to give him a small gift, that is insignificant in the big picture, but allowed him to see he was loved.
What do you think? Is God concerned with who wins and loses? Why do teams that give him no credit do as well as those who are followers of him?

SEC Picks
Ok girls you can skip and go to another blog. This is my SEC picks for 2007 in Football. Just to let everyone know I am a huge Florida fan so there is a little bias in my picks.
SEC West:
This used to be the JV part of the SEC, but with Auburn and LSU good every year and Arkansas and Alabama improving it is becoming as good as the East.
1) Auburn: I see Auburn going 10-2 losing 2. Their list of possible losses includes (@Florida, @ LSU, @ Arkansas, @ Georgia, Alabama, Kansas State). I think they could go 11-1 if things fall just right. But they could also easily fall to 8-4 and still have a very good team.
2) LSU: I see the Tigers going 9-3 losing to 3 of the 4 (Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, or Virginia Tech). They will be very strong, but could fall further down the list if Arkansas or Alabama do well.
3) Arkansas: The Razorbacks are my sleeper team. Many are writing them off, but with the two best backs in the country they remind me of Auburn of 3 years ago. I am picking them to go 9-3 and lose 3 to any of these teams (Alabama, Auburn, LSU, or South Carolina).
4) Alabama: I hate Nick Saban. Let me start off with that so you will know this may not be the most acurate pick of Alabama. I think they will go 7-5 and lose against all the ranked teams in the SEC and FSU out of conference. They could go 9-3 at absolute best, but more realistically will look at anywhere from 6-6 to 8-4.
5) Mississippi: I am picking Ole Miss at 4-8 with a few out of conference wins and MSU and a possible upset in the SEC.
6) Mississippi State: I see 2-10 and the dismissal of the coach for the Bulldogs this season.

This may have 4 top 25 teams in it by the end of the year. Many of these teams will beat each other up and I don't see anyone going unscathed.
1) Florida: I see the Gators having to learn on the fly on defense, but the offense will be better than last year. Unfortunately for me...defense wins championships and Florida's is not good enough to compete and go undefeated. However I do see them going 11-1 this season (losing to either Auburn or Tennessee). I don't see LSU or Georgia beating them this year, although the old ball coach may get them in Carolina. They could finish anywhere from 8-4 to 12-0.
2) Georgia: This team is always under-rated in the SEC. Richt will have them ready and now that they have a QB with some experience I see them winning 10 games. Losing to Florida and either Tennessee, Alabama or Auburn.
3) South Carolina: This team is a sleeper. Spurier is the best coach in the SEC (which is loaded with coaching talent) and looks to have more talent this year. They did lose Rice, but return most of their starters. I see 8-4 for the Gamecocks this year. Losing to Florida, Georgia, LSU and either Tennesee or Arkansas.
4) Tennessee: I'm sorry Jason Bybee, but I just don't see Tennessee doing well this year. Losing all their recievers is going to hurt, although I feel the QB on this team is one to watch next year. I am picking 7-5 with losses to Florida, Georgia, California, Arkansas, and either Alabama or South Carolina.
5) Vandy: They will slide some this season. It seems they are a talented bunch in the wrong conference. I am picking 5-7, losing to the SEC East except Kentucky and Wake Forest (you know they were hoping that would be an easy win) and Auburn.
6) Kentucky: I do think they are improving, they are just in the wrong conference. I pick 4-8 with losses to the SEC and Louisville.

Update on life of the Simpson's
Well I can almost relax. Our football game went well, we won the JV game 7-0 and lost the Varsity 14-7. We fumbled twice inside the 5 yard-line, the last with 40 seconds left in a close game against a 6A school in Tuscaloosa. I was happy with the defense. We allowed 2 scores, but also forced 3 turnovers and held our own against a team with two division 1 prospects.
The next day we had our track party. I am sure Jamey http://www.jameysimpson.blogspot.com will post on this later with pictures of Avery jumping into the pool. She even liked the divingboard at the Young's house.
Mother's Day went well for the most part. Avery gave her mother her gift in the morning and we went out for lunch to celebrate. We wanted Olive Garden, but there was a 40 minute wait, so we chose Shoney's. I think Jamey enjoyed it and I promised to take her to Olive Garden some night later on, so if anyone wants to babysit...
I called my mom, but couldn't get her on the phone, so "mom happy mother's day" if you didn't get my message.
We should be able to slow down a little now. The past three weekends I have been to Mobile, Gulf Shores, and Tuscaloosa with coaching, I am ready to have date night with my girls this friday and Avery's birthday party this weekend.

Our girls track team placed 4th at the state meet. We were hoping for top 5. The great news is we had no seniors. Jamey is quite the coach.

Favorite Sport
I recently had a student ask me what my favorite sport was. It was a rather easy question for me to answer (football), but it got me to thinking what the next sports would be. Track, Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball?? I am not sure.
The more I thought about it the more I began to wonder if football was my favorite. I enjoy coaching Football the most, but may have enjoyed playing Basketball the most. My favorite to watch is football, although nothing beats March Madness. So I guess I really am torn about which is my favorite...

Top Rivalries
I am a few days late in this post as Jason has already posted on this subject. Here are my top 10 rivalries in sports.
Top 10 rivalries
1) OSU vs. Michigan: Big game every year. This year of course had even more importance. Two states that hate each other...at least for one week every year.
2) NYY vs Boston: I am not a big baseball fan, but in just the past few years I have been on the edge of my seat for these thrillers in the post season. To actually call another organization "the evil empire" takes this to a new level.
3) Colts vs. Patriots: This game has determined the superbowl winner four of the past 6 seasons. It has shown the growth of Manning and the ratings are great every year.
4) UNC vs. Duke: The best baskeball rivals in the country. There are no other games that compare to these two going at each other at least two times a season. Normally at least one is in the top ten.
5) Auburn vs. Alabama: The state of Alabama's biggest day each year. I am new to this, but have seen first hand how going 0-4 against Auburn will get you fired quickly.
6) Fla vs. FSU: This is the new Miami vs. FSU rivalry. Great game and if you live in Florida you must pick one.
7) Phins vs. Jets: My favorite NFL game (I know I am a homer), but I hate seeing Dolphins stadium half filled with drunk yankees. GO BACK HOME!!! Who can forget the fake spike by Marino, or the 30-7 comeback by the Jets on Monday night.
8) Cowboys vs. Redskins: More tradition than most NFL games have. Great rivalry.
9) OU vs. Texas: This one is for Jon. This is his and the state of Texas' game of the year. Have been some good ones in the not so distant past.
10)Texas vs. Texas A&M: Texas has two spots in my list. This game is huge for all Texans.
I know I am dominated by football here, but hey it is hard to say there is a true rivalry with men in long shorts, or that take a break every half-inning.
Older great ones: Ali vs. Fraiser, Army vs. Navy, KC vs. Denver, Bears vs. Packers,

Workin' at the Carwash and the rest of the weekend
This weekend was a busy one for the Simpson's. First on Friday night we went to "game night" at the Mills. After throughly dominating the game "25 Words or less", I did not do so well with Catchphrase (which in my opinion requires absolutely no skill).
Next came the Carwash on Saturday. We had set a goal of $1000 for the day. I thought that would be a bit optimistic. So my goal was $500 or more. After several hundred cars on a balmy 40 degree day, we made $1400. We will now hopefully not have to do another fundraiser for this season. I also have a nice sunburn from this experience. That night we had Chris and Dawn over and Griffin.
Sunday was nice as we watched the Colts beat the Bears in a predictable victory. I actually was pulling for the Bears, but did not mind seeing the Colts get a deserved Super Bowl ring.

Well, now we are 3-7 in football. We had a team cheat and use an illegal player, so we were "rewarded" with another win. Boy doesn't that feel great.

Little Nicky
I am not a Nick Saban fan. I never have been. I am glad as a Dolphin fan to see him out the door. What burns me up though, is that I live in Alabama and will have to listen to stories about him for the next however many years he is here (until he leaves them for a "better job").
To re-empahsize I am glad the Dolphins can finally get someone in place that can turn around the sinking ship that is our franchise. That Neo-nazi of a coach and his 1.2 million assistants can hit the road.
Alabama now gets to hear him talk about integrity and being a champion, while not living as he talks. The man simply ran out on a job that he had not done well. Instead of fixing what he created he ran to a place where he will easily be able to win more games. Teaching young minds to run whenever tough times come, is not a lesson I'd want my son to learn Little Nicky...

I have been neutral in my cheering for teams from Alabama, but now while I am not an Auburn fan, I will be pulling for any team playing against the Tide.
*** Addition: Here is another point of the Little Napolean complex that Saban is struggling with from the Miami Herald: "An official said a Dolphins staffer once complimented Saban on his haircut. That staffer later was told not to speak directly to the coach again. And as profootballtalk.com once reported -- and an official confirmed -- Saban once snapped because a team staffer didn't purchase the correct type of ''Little Debbie'' cakes.

An update on the Simpson world of sports.
The year in review:
As most of you know Jamey and I coach junior high and high school kids. The beginning of this year was a good one for me. I coached the 7th and 9th grade teams and helped with the varsity basketball at Madison Academy. The 7th grade team I had went 21-0 and won the conference championship. The 9th grade team finished 13-5 despite playing many teams that were quite a bit larger than us. The varsity team at MA won the state title last year.
This summer we made a change to work with Alabama Christian in Montgomery. Jamey and I were both going to work through re-building seasons. Jamey took a team that had won 1 game last year and had very little experience to a 3-8 season (in which they led several games, but could not close them out), while I was the defensive coordinator for a team that went 2-8 (despite leading in 4 other games). We are both excited to actually be able to coach together in the upcoming year as we are the track coaches at ACA.
Most of you know I am a huge Florida Gator fan. So I was very excited when they won the national championship in basketball this past year, and they look like they have a great shot to repeat. I am also an Arizona and Air Force fan. Both had decent seasons last year, and each looks to go deep in the tournament this season (I see Air Force as a sweet 16 team, that already has beat Texas Tech, Wake Forrest (by 40) and Stanford (also by 40)).
In college football I am hoping to see Florida continue to do well. Air Force did not get invited to a bowl game, but I hope Arizona will.
In professional sports I was glad to see Dwayne Wade and the Heat win the NBA title. And while I do not see them repeating, my favorite team the Orlando Magic have the best record in the East to this point. The Dolphins got off to a very slow start at 1-6 and are now starting to act like they care. At 5-6 I don’t see the playoffs in the future, but maybe an 8-8 season. In baseball the Marlins played very well for a team of kindergarteners and maybe with a little experience they can challenge in the NL next season.
Also, in flag football in case you may have missed it. The Vaughn Park team won the title at Faulkner this past season, despite being much older and out-of-shape than every team we played.

Jamey took a team that had won 1 game last year and had very little experience to a 3-8 season (in which they led several games, but could not close them out), while I was the defensive coordinator for a team that went 2-8 (despite leading in 4 other games). We are both excited to actually be able to coach together in the upcoming year as we are the track coaches at ACA.
Most of you know I am a huge Florida Gator fan. So I was very excited when they won the national championship in basketball this past year, and they look like they have a great shot to repeat. I am also an Arizona and Air Force fan. Both had decent seasons last year, and each looks to go deep in the tournament this season (I see Air Force as a sweet 16 team, that already has beat Texas Tech, Wake Forrest (by 40) and Stanford (also by 40)).
In college football I am hoping to see Florida continue to do well. Air Force did not get invited to a bowl game, but I hope Arizona will.
In professional sports I was glad to see Dwayne Wade and the Heat win the NBA title. And while I do not see them repeating, my favorite team the Orlando Magic have the best record in the East to this point. The Dolphins got off to a very slow start at 1-6 and are now starting to act like they care. At 5-6 I don’t see the playoffs in the future, but maybe an 8-8 season. In baseball the Marlins played very well for a team of kindergarteners and maybe with a little experience they can challenge in the NL next season.
Also, in flag football in case you may have missed it. The Vaughn Park team won the title at Faulkner this past season, despite being much older and out-of-shape than every team we played.

That's B(C)S
Today they revealed the new BCS standings. The day after Michigan gave up 42 points in a loss to Ohio State. The day after Michigan was down 11 points with 30 seconds to go in the "great epic" between two of the better teams in the NCAA. To me Ohio State dominated the game, and although they did not do a great job against Mike Hart, they are the superior team by far.
The rankings:
1. Ohio State (no problem here)
2. Michigan (are you kidding me?)
3. USC (another over-rated team)
4. Florida (another SEC team about to get messed over)
5. Notre Dame
6. Arkansas
7. West Virginia
8. Louisville
Now don't get me wrong Michigan is better than several of the other one-loss teams (they beat Notre Dame rather easily), but to put them over USC and Florida and even red-hot Arkansas is a mistake. Of course people that live in the rust belt (also known as the mid-west want a rematch) what else will they do?? Make some more cars!!
Here are the resume's for the other top teams and senarios that I would put them in.
Florida: If they beat FSU and Arkansas they should be number 2. They have the toughest schedule of any of the top 10 teams and are a blocked punt away from being undefeated. Yes, they do not win pretty (how about Michigans thrilling win over Vandy, or their close call two weeks ago). If we are stuck with an awful system, the team that plays the hardest schedule with the best record should be in the championship game.
USC: If Florida falters and they win-out they should go. They have not played a rough schedule (with the exception of Notre Dame, who Michigan handled and Arkansas, lucky they played them early). They should go over a one-loss Arkansas team because they won the head-to-head. They should go over Michigan because their resume will be very similar, except we have not already seen them get handled by Ohio State.
Arkansas: Need to win-out (LSU will give them fits and I don't think they match up well with Florida) and hope for Notre Dame to beat USC. If that happens I say you put them ahead of Michigan and Notre Dame.
Michigan: Obviously I am not very high on a rematch. But...If Florida loses to Arkansas, and Arkansas loses to LSU (very possible) AND Notre Dame beats USC (also possible) Michigan should go over a Notre Dame team they have already beat.
So those are my senarios, what do you think? What about other bowl games? Here are a few of my picks.
Sugar: Florida (who gets left in the cold) vs. West Virginia (if they beat Rutgers)
Rose: Michigan vs. Auburn (There's your rematch)
Orange: ACC winner vs. Notre Dame
Fiesta: Texas vs. Boise State
I see Arkansas getting the Capital Bowl, Tennesse in the next SEC game and LSU in the leftover bowl.

We are the champions
OLD MEN WIN TITLE
In a surprising blowout the old men managed to go undefeated last night. Playing Faulkner's best club team the old men used a suffocating defense to secure the win early and then had fun running the score up late in their victory over Kappa.
Led by Albert Cager's 3 TD's and Andy Bowen's 2 TD's the old men were only threatened once, at 13-6, before they pulled away to a 33-6 win last night in the championship.
The OM started with the ball and drove down the field quickly before an interception ended the drive at the 5 yard line. The defense quickly forced a 3-and-out and the OM started the next drive at the 50. Fueled by catches by Jerry and Russ to get the ball down to the 30, Andy Bowen scored one of his two rushing touchdowns by making several people miss. After another shutdown on defense, the OM scored quickly as Simpson found Cager for a 40 yard score.
After the half Kappa responded with a nice TD drive to make it 13-6. That is a close as they would get. The old men then ran a long drive down the field, including a reverse by Jeff May to get the ball down to the 5 yard line. From their Simpson found Bowen for a short pass that would push the lead to 20-6.
After another stop by the defense, with a sack on 3rd down by Jeff Hubbard. The OM quickly went down field. The big pass was Simpson to Medaris for 35 yards. On fourth and goal Simpson found Cager between two defenders to make it 27-6.
The last score was late in the game as Cager found Medaris for a 60 yard TD to complete the mercy rule.
Too bad that it is over.
