The Simpson's
One of my favorite shows (not just because of the name...haha), because it has so much in it. There are times when it makes fun of religion, but often it is to prove a point. There are other times the show has stupid humor, but all seem to point out what is wrong. Michael Felker did a great story on why he likes the show: http://www.michealfelker.com/2007/05/11/top-eleven-moments-in-yellow/. He does a great job detailing why he likes the show and the good parts about it.

Growing up we were not allowed to watch the Simpsons. Now that I'm older I can see that there are a lot of satirical shots, and I find myself laughing.
I think it's a show reserved for adults because I don't think the good parts outweigh the crudeness or examples or ideas of what a father, brother, etc. should be in a family...especially with young children who don't even understand the satire.
There's a book out called "The Gospel According to the Simpsons." I leafed through it for a paper I did once on media & religion. The author says it's the most religious show on television today, despite the crudeness and the jabs at organized religion. You might enjoy reading it sometime.
My wife will not allow me to watch.
Ken's dad LOVES the show and me, Ken's mom HATES it!
sigh . . . . keeping hoping it'll be cancelled one day, althought the book sounds intriguing, Jason, may check that out. Love ya, Mom
Kenny-
Thanks for the shout out. Keep checking back every Friday as the movie gets closer. Next week I'm posting about how much Homer loves Marge.
Jason-
I've read "The Gospel According to the Simpsons." It was a great and insightful book. Probably in week 5 I'll start to write about the spiritual conversations brought up by the show. I've noticed on Amazon that it is being re-released and updated this summer. I might have to re-purchase it. there is also a study guide.
Jason, I read Pinksy's book The Gospel According To The Simpsons a few years ago as well. It was a very good read.
